Vestfold county library has been granted funding for the project “Norgesbiblioteket in Second Life” for 2008 by ABM-utvikling, the Norwegian Archive, Library and Museum Authority. One of the main goals is to provide librarians with knowledge of and experience with providing services in a virtual world. Norgesbiblioteket opened in SL 23rd of September 2008. We offer regular meetings and workshops announced here on the blog and in SL.
Norgesbiblioteket in Second Life is the official Norwegian project for developing library services in Second Life. In addition we seek to be an arena for educational and collaborative activities and will cooperate with educational institutions to achieve this goal.
The term Norgesbiblioteket (The Norwegian Library) was coined by the
Norwegian Archive, Library and Museum Authority in their strategy document Library Reform 2014 and describes a collaborative network of all different types of public libraries that includes all media, as well as conventional and online services. Together Norgesbiblioteket should serve the whole population and their different and complex demands and needs.
